In the annual general meeting (AGM), most members demanded the Secretary-General's resignation. Last night, Shamim Ahmed
Chowdhury Noman submitted his resignation letter to the BAIRA office.
President Mohammad Abul Bashar said that when the majority of the members demanded the resignation of the Secretary-General in the BAIRA meeting on Saturday, he submitted his resignation letter at the office of the organization at night.
BAIRA's 32nd Annual General Meeting was scheduled to be held
on last January 30. According to the constitution, various reports including
annual and financial reports should reach the members 14 days before the annual
meeting.
But due to the objection of the members, the meeting was
adjourned on that day and the date of the meeting was fixed on February 11.
In Saturday's meeting, the members also raised questions
about the cost of the training center built in Gazipur for BAIRA. The
sanctioned cost limit for building construction was tk.10 crores. But the
members said that more than 15 crores Taka was spent there.
Regarding this additional expenditure, BAIRA president
Bashar said, "In my previous term (2018-20), only tk.5 crores were spent on
the construction of a two-and-a-half-story building with a foundation. But in
the next term, an inquiry committee has been constituted to see why so much
money was spent on the construction of the remaining two-and-a-half-story
buildings.”
The training center built in Gazipur was given the
foundation of a six-story building, but the work was completed by constructing
five floors.
